Diljit Dosanjh lately took to his social media handle to share the trailer of his next movie 'Amar Singh Chamkila'. He had attended the official trailer launch event in Mumbai on Thursday (March 28, 2024) with his co-star Parineeti Chopra, director Imtiaz Ali, and music composer AR Rahman. During the trailer launch event, Diljit was moved to tears. Now what could have possibly caused that?
Diljit became emotional after director Imtiaz Ali praised him during the trailer launch event of 'Amar Singh Chamkila'. The Punjabi star essays the main character in the film, and this is what Ali said about the actor during the event, “You have already achieved so much but I can guarantee this, this is just your beginning. Wherever you go, we will be with you. I am very happy this freshness came into my life of doing this film. I am thankful to Netflix who took it up with equal love". This sweet gesture by Imtiaz made Diljit emotional and one could also see Parineeti Chopra consoling him.
The recently-released trailer shows a young man (Diljit) in a small village in Punjab being introduced at an Akhada for a live performance where he is, by mistake, called Chamkila. When he objects, the organisers pay no heed to it and tell him that his name is insignificant and he should proceed with the performance. However, his music gets recognised in his village, among women who find it relatable. Conservative voices object to the songs because of the controversial lyrics. As the trailer proceeds, Diljit gets into a singing partnership with Amarjot Kaur (Parineeti Chopra).
Diljit and Parineeti have crooned some of the original Chamkila songs in Punjabi for the movie. Talking about the film, it will showcase live music recordings, and show the authenticity of Diljit and Parineeti's live performances in the Akhadas. The Imtiaz Ali-directed movie shows the untold story of Punjab's rockstar Chamkila who was loved by the folks of his community before his untimely date at the age of 27. The soundtrack has been composed by A.R. Rahman while Irshad Kamil wrote the lyrics. The movie is set to release on April 12, 2024, on Netflix.
