Apple Pie By Yogesh

I learnt this recipe when I was in Shimla at a friends' place. With apples abundantly available, his mom prepared delicious apple pies. The aroma of the freshly baked apple pie filled the kitchen and it dragged us there.

INGREDIENTS

  • For pie crust
  • 350 gms all purpose flour
  • 225 gms butter chilled and cut into pieces
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 6 tablespoon chilled water
  • For filling
  • 4-5 large apples peeled and cut into slices
  • 3 tablespoon Sugar
  • Few pieces of walnuts and raisins
  • 2 tablespoon cinnamon powder
  • 2 - 3 teaspoon orange juice
  • 2 teaspoon lemon juice

PREPARATION

    Method for making crust.

    Mix all ingredients except water, it will be like crumbs.

    Add water one tablespoon at a time keep kneading lightly till fully combined make a dough.

    Cut into 2 and cover each with cling film and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

    For filling .

    In a thick bottom pan add sugar, apples, lemon juice ,cinnamon powder and mix cook for 2 minutes add walnuts, raisins, orange juice. Cook.

    Ensure to not overcook apples.

    Roll out one dough to cover a rectangle pan measuring 9". Grease it.

    Prick it with fork to prevent rising.

    Put the filling and spread it evenly.

    Roll out the other dough and cover it sealing the sides.

    Cut strips and decorate it as basket weaving.

    Bake at 175° Celsius for 20 minutes.
